Hello! My name is Vanessa, my family is from Hong Kong but I grew up in Bristol, UK. I have 13 years of experience in the hospitality industry; from all-you-can-eat buffet to Michelin star restaurants. For the past few years I have been managing high-end restaurants in London, whilst keeping my baking passion alive in my spare time. Whilst the forced closure of restaurants brought with it a lot of despair for the hospitality industry, it gave me the time I needed to start Cakes à la folie as a business.

I am a largely self-taught baker, but have also had private lessons with a very well regarded pastry chef (3* Michelin background) in London to refine my skills. The first thing I ever taught myself to make as a child was chocolate chip cookies so I really wanted to incorporate that somewhere in my business. Sandwiching them with silky smooth crème au beurre is incredibly decadent but has received rave reviews from colleagues (except those dieting...). I know cookies don't strictly fit under the cake umbrella but I'm dubbing them cookie cakes and calling it a day.
